Americorp Teaching Fellow 2012-13

Esperanza Academy seeks Americorp Teaching Fellows for the 2012-13 school year. Esperanza, located in Lawrence, MA, is a tuition-free, independent day school in the Episcopal tradition for low income girls in grades 5-8. Esperanza Academy is 100% privately funded and depends greatly on a large population of generous volunteers. (www.EsperanzaAcademy.org)

The Americorp Teaching Fellow will teach classes, work and or coach in the extended day program and perform other responsibilities related to teaching. He/she is supervised by the Education Leadership Team. The successful candidate will demonstrate belief in Esperanza’s mission, philosophy, strategic plan and the Head’s vision for the School. The Teaching Fellow will be a person of high moral character with a generous sense of humor, determination and fortitude. The Teaching Fellow shall have the ability to work independently and cooperatively and be committed to goal-oriented leadership. Organizational, computer and communication skills must be exemplary. A Bachelor’s degree is required.

Teacher Qualifications
Expertise in creating an inspired learning environment that is evidenced by strong classroom management and meaningful learning experiences, expertise in content knowledge and the teaching and learning process, ability to adapt to the unique learning needs of individual students through differentiated instruction especially with English Language Learners ability to vary and implement different and creative strategies within classroom while maintaining focus on academics and study skills, to respect and respond to educational implications of socio-economic status and cultural backgrounds of students and their families experience using data driven instruction and backward planning models committed to student pursuit of motivated independence as lifelong learners by empowering students to identify and manage their own learning styles and needs, comprehensive understanding of the developmental needs of middle school girls effective communication skills in order to facilitate information amongst colleagues and families.

Compensation
This eleven-month position provides health and dental insurance, $12,000 stipend, and an Americorp Education Award (to pay student loans or graduate school). Housing is available as a part of the package.
