Message from the Head of the Search Committee:

October 16, 2017

Dear Members of the Esperanza Community:

I’m writing to share with you a progress report on the search for Esperanza Academy’s next permanent Head of School.

This past July, a Search Committee was empanelled to coordinate this effort. I am honored to serve as Chair and am joined by fellow Trustees Denise Bordonaro, Diane Domenech Burgos, Yeng Butler, Eric Werner; former Trustee Janet Rogers; faculty members Alex Supple and Ben Lynch and current parents Glenda Portillo and Juan Pino. Barbara Chase and Amanda Riegel, both of Carney Sandoe & Associates, are serving as our search consultants. Both bring extensive experience and deep knowledge of the work and culture of schools like ours. Barbara Chase is the former longer serving Head of School at near-by Phillips Academy and is very familiar with the history and the mission of Esperanza.

The Committee has elicited feedback from members of the School community: faculty, staff, students, alumnae, parents and friends about the qualifications, skills, temperament and habits of mind the next Head of Esperanza should possess. The compilation of that  information is contained on the job prospectus that is currently available on the  Esperanza website.

Barbara Chase and Amanda Riegel report that a deep and talented pool of candidates have responded to the position’s posting. They will forward ten of the strongest dossiers to the Search Committee for consideration at their October 26th meeting. The Committee then will select the top resumes to move forward to the semi-finalist round to be conducted in mid- November. Semi-finalist candidates will be invited for personal interviews with the full Committee. The Search Committee will then narrow the field to finalist candidates who will  come to campus in December for a full day of interviews with faculty, staff, parents, students, trustees and other friends of the School.

The Search Committee intends to make its Head of School recommendation to the full Board of Trustees by early January.

Our Committee is confident that we will find an dynamic leader who is committed to the philosophy, mission and and beliefs of Esperanza and who can continue to lead Esperanza on its upwards trajectory.

Sincerely,

Marty Doggett

Chair, Head of School Search Committee
